_____________
Regreso a Casa is a compilation of musicians and audiovisual artists located in Argentina, the United States, Colombia, France and Venezuela, curated by Samuel Dario.
Our goal was to create an album full of memories of our culture, based on re-imaginings of songs that connect us with our beloved Venezuela.
These re-imaginings are a form of translation, taking Latin songs and turning them into experimental sound works. The purpose of re-imagining is to use elements of a song in a transformative way, processing the lyrics, samples, and/or instrumentation to create something completely new. Some of our participants chose to create original works based on styles established throughout the postcolonial culture of Latin America. Together, the results bring a series of music that not only expresses the experience of migration but the evolution of the Venezuelan culture and its cultivation within and outside its borders.
The exhibition includes the participation of the electronic group Santa Fuego, with the musical producer, Carlos Rey, with the audiovisual and musical producer, Kyril Elneser, in collaboration with the singer, Catherine Meneses, with the designer Paloma Lacruz, with the French duet of guitar and cello, Luiggi Mendez and Sofía Quaegebeur, with the director and audiovisual producer, Jay Roff-Garcia, and with the music producer and electronic engineer, Samuel Dario.
This project is supported by Ruido/Noise and the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Department of Economic Development.
