"Livestream"

Tim Alien is a rose tinted exploration of the not-so-distant past as I know it. My actual name is Travis Kitchen, and as a child of the 90s who was left alone a lot, I naturally worshipped the television, radio, and VCR. This provides the foundation of the work, which is essentially an assemblage of chopped and screwed nostalgia-porn. I grab footage from an array of sources which includes a collection of tapes I find secondhand (usually old National Geographics, CNN Specials, BBC documentaries). I also film footage on my phone and run it through tape, then back onto my computer for further edits. As for the music, I love samping old R&B, dad rock, the Weather Channel, and old computer game music.

For my livestream, I wanted to blend old and new. I find art can be a way to communicate with the past, so I included footage of millenium celebrations mixed with a glimpse into the future they were so optimistic for. I recorded footage of myself "performing" as this is the first time I've personified Tim Alien. The real life footage was filmed at the aquarium, random office buildings, and in my backyard. As a real life person, I live in the past and relish memories. It's thrilling to find a way to channel it into art and even more exciting to share it with you.

My main project is called Indoor Creature, a jazzy pop outfit based in Austin. I play drums in the band. I have also collaborated as Tim Alien with other artists such as Streamcatcher and Flora and Fawna.

Tim Alien es una exploración teñida de rosa del pasado no tan lejano como yo lo conozco. Mi nombre real es Travis Kitchen, y cuando era un niño de los 90 que se quedaba solo mucho del tiempo. Naturalmente adoraba la televisión, la radio y la videograbadora. Esto proporciona la base del trabajo, que es esencialmente un ensamblaje de nostalgia-porno picado y atornillado. Tomo imágenes de una variedad de fuentes que incluyen una colección de cintas que encuentro de segunda mano (por lo general, antiguas National Geographics, CNN Specials, documentales de la BBC). También grabo metraje en mi teléfono y lo paso a través de una cinta, luego de vuelta a mi computadora para más ediciones. En cuanto a la música, me encanta escuchar el viejo R&B, el papá rock, el Weather Channel y la vieja música de juegos de computadora.

Para mi transmisión en vivo, quería mezclar lo antiguo y lo nuevo. Creo que el arte puede ser una forma de comunicarme con el pasado, así que incluí imágenes de las celebraciones del milenio mezcladas con un vistazo al futuro por el que eran tan optimistas. Grabé imágenes de mí mismo "actuando", ya que es la primera vez que personifico a Tim Alien. Las imágenes de la vida real fueron filmadas en el acuario, edificios de oficinas al azar y en mi patio trasero. Como persona de la vida real, vivo en el pasado y disfruto de los recuerdos. Es emocionante encontrar una manera de canalizarlo hacia el arte y aún más emocionante compartirlo contigo.

Mi proyecto principal se llama Indoor Creature, un conjunto de jazz pop con sede en Austin. Toco la batería en la banda. También he colaborado como Tim Alien con otros artistas como Streamcatcher y Flora and Fawna.
